Group Study Rooms Policy

Policy:

The New Mexico State University Library’s Group Study Rooms are intended as a place for New Mexico State University students to work and study together.

Comments/Procedures:

  • Student group study rooms are available only for currently enrolled NMSU students in groups of two or more for collaborative learning.
  • NMSU instructors, faculty, staff, and community users, are not eligible to use group study rooms.
  • Rooms are available by reservation at  https://nmsu.libcal.com/reserve/groupstudyrooms and may be reserved up to two weeks in advance.
  • Rooms 250 A, B, F, and G are not locked and are available first come, first served. However, these rooms can be reserved. If so, walk-in users may be asked to vacate the room.
  • Rooms are available during library hours only and must be vacated thirty minutes before the library closes.
  • Rooms are reserved in half-hour time slots. Rooms are reserved in half-hour time slots. Groups are limited to two hours consecutively during the day.
  • A room key is checked out at the Zuhl Service Desk. Any group member may check out the room key.
  • The student who checks out the group study room key is responsible for the return of the key and the condition of the room when vacated. Make sure the group study room is locked and empty upon departure.
  • Rooms will be held for up to fifteen minutes past the reservation start time. If the group fails to appear after fifteen minutes, the room can be scheduled by another group.
  • The Library is not responsible for unattended, lost, stolen, or damaged personal items.
  • Overdue fines are assessed hourly until the room key is returned. A lost key charge is assessed for keys not returned within twenty-four hours. See our  List of Library Fees and Charges for the current amounts charged.
  • Group study rooms are not soundproof. Please be considerate of others in the area.
  • The Library staff will conduct periodic walk-throughs to monitor noise levels.  Library users are encouraged to report concerns about excessive noise or disruption to the Zuhl Service Desk. Library users who do not comply with this policy may be asked to change their behavior, move to a location more conducive to their needs, or leave the building if the problem persists.
  • Special requests for room usage should be addressed to the Department Head of Access Services.
  • The Library will periodically assess group study room usage and reserves the right to adjust procedures as needed.
