The papers of Senator Pete V. Domenici document the work of this important New Mexico politician during his 36-year career serving in the United States Congress. Domenici was elected to six terms in office, from 1973 to 2009, serving an important role in U.S. policymaking. Totaling nearly 2,000 linear feet, Domenici’s congressional papers reflect the senator’s work in economic development, energy, budget, national security, natural resources, behavioral health, nuclear non-proliferation, and many other topics. Domenici served on several important congressional committees during his time in office, including Appropriations, Budget, Energy and Natural Resources, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and Indian Affairs.
In addition to the papers documenting Domenici’s legislative work, the collection includes materials related to campaigns, press, correspondence, and office administration. Also included are large collections of photographs, audio materials, video materials, microfilm, and memorabilia.
The papers are available for research in the NMSU Library Archives and Special Collections reading room. Processing of Domenici’s papers is ongoing. A finding aid to the collection provides researchers with information on the portions of the collection that have been processed to date.
Questions regarding access and use of the materials can be directed to the NMSU Library Archives and Special Collections.
